Frequently Asked Questions
Will my payment information be secure?
Memberpress (the plugin we use to handle payments) passes your payment information directly to Stripe or Paypal. None of your data is stored on this site, so you are as safe paying here as you are on any other site that uses Stripe or Paypal. More info can be found here.
Why do all pledge tiers get the same content? That’s weird!
Clockwork Bird memberships are pay-what-you-want, because we want everyone to be able to enjoy our games. It’s important nobody’s treated differently based on their income.
Everyone’s welcome here. We only ask that you give what you can, and what you believe to be a fair price for the work we do.
So I could give you €1, download all your games, then cancel my subscription for a huge discount?
Correct! That is a thing you could do!
Please don’t.
So it really is up to me, the person reading these words right now, to decide what I can give each month to keep these bright and creative people independent?
Exactly! All value is subjective and money is an artificial construct that divides humanity. I’m so glad you understand, disembodied voice of indeterminate age or gender!
What if I need to change my pledge amount later, or cancel my pledges altogether?
You can raise, lower, cancel or pause your pledge at any time.
If you have any problems with pledges, just contact us and we’ll help you sort it out!
Why are you doing this?
When we sat down to re-evaluate our position and future goals, we asked ourselves “What would our ideal studio look like, in 10 years’ time?”
- We get to make the games we want, how we want.
- We are supported by a strong community.
- We don’t have to worry about a game’s marketability or commercial success because community pledges are all we need to keep making games – so we get to give our games directly to our strongest supporters.
We do not expect this process to be fast or easy. We do not expect this to meaningfully offset our costs for a long time, maybe for years. But this is the first necessary step on the path toward a future we want to realize.
